Based on the Pearson Correlation statistical analysis of learning challenges and motivation towards spoken English skills indicated no significant difference between them, for the Sig. value is greater than .05 (p=.321). This means that the learning challenges the so-called English speaking difficulties had no relation with motivation in term of spoken English skills. It further points out that students are motivated to study spoken language for the sake of personal prospects without the regard with power of learning challenges.
As ESL students, there were numerous learning difficulties which needed to be confronted in order to accomplish the proficiency in speaking. These challenges may not a direct relationship with students’ motivation towards spoken English skills, for in Cambodia it is thought everyone who speaks English well will definitely get good jobs. Hence, they are motivated to learn spoken English though it is challenging. In short, no relationship has been found between English speaking difficulties and motivation in term of spoken English skills in this study.
