A research involves certain common components such as defining the questions, reviewing the literature, planning the methodology, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating findings (Anderson & Arsenault, 2005). To conduct the current study, several steps were followed from the beginning until completion of the study as follows:
- Ongoing review of the previous literature and related research.
- Identifying the population and sample of the study using the statistics from TESOL Undergraduate students.
- Pilot test instruments and ascertain the validity and reliability.
- Obtain permission to distribute the instruments.
- Organize and code the returned instruments.
- Compare the results from both quantitative and qualitative designs. o Analyze data by SPSS software package for the quantitative data. o Answer research questions and present the results of the study.
- Discuss the findings and formulate recommendations.
Data Collecting Process
The process of quantitative data collection consists of five steps – determining the respondents out of the population to study, obtaining permissions needed from the related institutions, considering the types of information to collect from several sources available to the quantitative research, locating, selecting instruments to use that will net useful data for the study, and finally, administering the data collection process to collect data (Creswell, 2012, pp. 141-2). The process of qualitative data collection is also the same as stated above; however, it employs the Email interview method, which is a new approach to interview, can be used effectively by qualitative researchers (Gay, Mills, & Airasian, 2012, p. 388) and the method can be employed quickly, conveniently, and inexpensively and can generate high-quality data when handled carefully (Meho, 2006).
In short, with the consent and support from the University, the questionnaires are distributed to four classes of TESOL Undergraduate students which one class from each year – the first, second, third and final year. The questionnaires will be administered with the precise explanation in order to smoothen the process of answering the questions.
In the meantime, the interview are conducted during the period of quantitative data collection. Two students are interviewed per time; hence, the interview takes place four time separately based on the university’s arrangement.
